 Here's a nice little documentary project on the craft spirits scene, called Distillation BC, that you should vote for so they can win production funds. Even though that lemon twist looks suspiciously like it's in the shape of houndstooth.

THE MATHEMATICS OF HOUNDSTOOTH

Intriguing new developments in the world of houndstooth! Loe Feijs, a professor in the Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, has been working hard at quantifying the mathematic principles that go into various houndstooth weaves.
His earlier research involved the analysis of classic Pied de Poule patterns via "tessellation theory, compact Processing programs and compass Logo" (don't ask me what any of that means). His diligent mathematical efforts have come to inspire a series of fashion project collaborations between Professor Feijs and Marina Toeters, including the one above which incorporates a recursive algorithm to produce a repeating houndstooth fractal-like pattern which is then is apparently laser-cut into the fabric. They will be presenting a number of their fashion innovations at the annual Bridges Conference and Joint Mathematics Meeting in the Netherlands, July 27-31, 2013.

MY NEMESIS RETURNS

Elle Canada is shoving houndstooth back in our faces with a 2012 fall trends issue. Houndstooth never really went away. It just bid its time festering on the back of ipad cases and purses. Now it looks set to take over the fashion landscape once again. Shame!

I'm continually frustrated by the accolades Gareth Pugh receives for his work. Not because I find his fashion particularly bad (although it is damn unwearable) but because of his insistence on the black and white check in a smashed mirror look. It is houndstooth through the looking glass and its time has come... and gone. It's like piecing together scraps from the floor of the dressing rooms of an Alice in Wonderland set that have first been eaten and passed by chickens. If you need that much black and white in your life... go play Go.

Prada's Spring/Summer 2010 menswear collection is certainly espousing the houndstooth contagion. And stills from Yang Fudong's "First Spring", a Prada commissioned short which resembles a frigid and neutered re-imagining of Robbe Grillet, are being used for the menswear print campaign. Sick.

Future Houndstooth

Some hype surrounding NADA's 3-D film fashion show which features model avatars in some videogame scenario selecting clothing from NADA's new line before battling it out in Mortal Combat style. Apparently houndstooth is featured. No image yet but I'll be digging.

I'm sure it can't beat Tron Legacy though, which looks suspiciously like the old changing rooms at cyberdog.
